Pay What You Can Memberships
We want climbing to be as diverse and inclusive as possible, but we know that cost can be a barrier for some, and that’s something we want to change.
For many people, climbing isn’t just a hobby. It’s what keeps them grounded, healthy, and connected to a community in a stressful, busy world.
So if money is the reason you’ve stopped climbing, are thinking about stopping, or never started at all, we’d much rather talk than say goodbye.
That’s why we’re introducing a Pay What You Can(PWYC) Membership at Climbing Hut. (16+)
If you’re a member and want to help make climbing more accessible, here’s how!

What is it?
A limited number of discounted memberships for people who want to climb but can’t currently afford our standard membership price.
No essays. No spreadsheets. No awkward conversations at the desk. Just a trust-based system, reviewed by the Centre Manager, because we’d always rather see you climbing than not.
If all PWYC memberships are currently taken, you can join a waitlist, and we’ll be in touch when a space becomes available.
Who’s it for?
If you’ve left because cost became a barrier.
If you’re thinking of pausing your membership because things feel tight.
If you’ve been thinking about a climbing membership for ages, but the numbers never quite worked. Then this is for you!

How to apply?
Fill in the form for your centre:
PWYC Ellesmere Port – Apply here (16+)
PWYC Shrewsbury – Apply here (16+)
We’ll take a look and get back to you.
PWYC memberships will only be reviewed by our centre managers. Your membership will then be like everyone else's.
No judgement. Just climbing
Already a member and want to help?
Some members can pay a bit more right now, and that generosity will help keep this scheme alive. If that’s you (thank you, honestly), you can add a £5 Pay What You Can bolt-on to your membership. It goes into the PWYC fund and helps us keep memberships accessible.
To add it: Complete a membership change request and select the £5 PWYC bolt-on
Then you're all done and a certified good egg in our books!
Important note, because transparency matters: this isn’t a strict one-for-one system. Your contribution helps us keep the doors open and make room for people who need it.

A Final Thing!
Needing a PWYC membership isn’t a failure. Contributing to the fund isn’t a flex. Both are just people doing what they can, which feels about right.
If cost is the thing standing between you and climbing, please reach out. If climbing is the thing that helps you get through the week, we’d love to have you here.
We would always rather see people climbing than not at all, so if you can’t pay full price, we still think you should be a part of our community!
