FAQ'S

Below you will find most of the frequently asked questions. If there is anything that you’re still unsure of, or cannot find an answer to, feel free to give us a call – 01743 295997

Do I need to be physically fit?

You don’t need to be fit or super strong to start climbing. You will find climbs you can do on your first visit and others that will take some working towards, we call these projects. Make sure you warm up prior to climbing to reduce the risk of injury.

How do I get started?

The best way to get started is to book a taster session, this gives you the chance to try our bespoke action walls, bouldering and tall walls, all in the space of an hour.

Alternatively you can book bouldering and upon arrival a member of staff will give you an introduction to the center.

What should I wear?

The best choice for climbing is athletic wear. Whether that be leggings or shorts and vests or shirts is up to you. Skirts/dresses and other loose-fitting clothing are not recommended. We do have a ‘tops on’ policy where tops must always be worn in the centre.

Do I need to book?

For bouldering and tall walls booking isn’t necessary as you can book in centre on the day.

However booking for action walls is always recommend as it will ensure that there is availability, especially during peak times of the day.

What are your quiet times?

Generally during the day 10:00 - 16:00 is quiet.

What is the minimum age?

Bouldering and Tall Walls - No minimum age.

Action walls - 5 years old.

NICAS - 7 years old.

Tasters and Coaching sessions - No minimum age.

What do the colours mean?

Our centre shows grades based on the colour of the start tags not the colour or the holds, the colours correspond to the grade chart (which you can find on the left hand side of each of our bouldering walls) with a V-Grade range that climb will fit into.

How long can I stay?

If you have paid for a day pass you can stay all day, you may enter and leave as you like.

What is a reset?

A reset is when all the holds are removed from a section of the wall and replaced with new holds in a new variety of routes we call problems / routes. The removal of holds is referred to as the strip and the replacing of all the holds is referred to as the set. The strip and set takes place each Thursday, opening at 6:00pm.

What rental equipment do you have?

We offer rental shoes, harnesses, belay devices and chalk. However we do not hire out ropes for our lead lead walls so you will need to provide your own.

What length rope do I need for lead climbing?

A 30m rope.

Do you have lost property?

We hold onto our lost property for 3 months, so if you have lost something speak to one of our members of staff and they can help find what you’ve lost.

What’s belaying?

Belaying is the process of managing a rope for a climber, ensuring there isn’t too much slack in the system and then bringing them back down to the ground safely.

How do I get down from the wall?

It is important that you always try and climb down where possible as this will ensure that your decent is safe and controlled. Jumping down has a higher risk to injury as the matting does not guarantee your safety!

Do you allow dogs?

We do allow dogs however they must follow our petiquette. Please ensure that they are:

  • Clean and flea free

  • House trained

  • Will sit, stay, and come on command

  • Does not disturb others by barking

  • Does not jump up or pester other people

  • Is kept off the mats and carpets
