GoatFest 2025 absolutely smashed it.

Over 400 people packed into Climbing Hut Ellesmere Port on Saturday 10 May for the launch of this brand-new national youth comp – and it didn’t disappoint. With more than 200 young climbers aged 7 to 18 taking part, and competitors travelling from all over the UK (yep, even London), this was youth climbing at its most electric.

The Mayor and Mayoress visited the event and met the climbers, soaked up the atmosphere, and left seriously impressed. They got a proper taste of what climbing does for young people. And yes, they met the Goat.

This wasn’t just another comp. GoatFest was built to fill a gap in the UK climbing scene. A national-standard event that pushes performance, challenges young athletes, and still keeps the energy full-on and fun.

Qualifiers kicked off scramble-style. Then came the IFSC-style grand finals, where the top six in each category had to bring their A-game. Routes were set by Ros Beveridge (the UK’s first female Chief Setter for a national comp) and a crack team of youth setters who brought the heat.

GoatFest is about giving these young climbers the platform they deserve. It’s a comp that’s tough, exciting, and full of community spirit. Exactly how climbing should be.

Winners? We had 30 of them. Ten age categories, three podium places each. The winners received a haul of climbing goodies including Finger Boards, chalk bags, finger trainers, stickers, keyrings, and more.

There was a real goat (obviously), a hyped-up MC, and a climbing community that showed up big time. GoatFest 2025 wasn’t just a success, it’s already earned its place on the national calendar and we can't wait until next year!

Thinking of giving climbing a try? Do it. The climbing scene is one of the most welcoming out there. Whether you're brand new to bouldering or just fancy a fresh challenge, there’s a place for you at Climbing Hut Ellesmere Port.
