If you’re looking for a fun after-school activity that builds confidence, coordination and friendships, our NICAS and NIBAS kids’ climbing clubs could be just the thing. Based at Climbing Hut Ellesmere Port, these nationally recognised programmes give children a safe and structured pathway into climbing, from playful first steps to advanced bouldering skills.
NICAS: Wild Climbers (Ages 3–6)
Designed for ages three to six, it introduces children to climbing in a safe, inclusive and game-based way. Every session is filled with fun activities that help little ones develop balance, agility, coordination and awareness of movement. Confidence grows quickly and children are rewarded as they go, collecting stickers in their own logbook to celebrate progress.
Sessions run throughout the week, starting 1st September through to 20th October.
There will be no session on 20th September due to our Krimptonite Finals and prices are adjusted accordingly.
Places are limited to just six climbers, keeping the group small and supportive.
NIBAS: Bouldering (Ages 7–17)
For older children we run the National Indoor Bouldering Award Scheme (NIBAS), aimed at ages seven to seventeen. This UK-wide scheme has five progressive levels, taking climbers from complete beginner to performance-level bouldering. At Climbing Hut Ellesmere Port we currently offer levels 1–4.
NIBAS is more than just climbing. Young people learn how to use equipment safely, develop technique and movement skills, and improve risk awareness. The programme also encourages teamwork, trust and communication, while introducing the history and ethics of climbing. Progress is recorded in a personal logbook, which supports their journey through the levels.
Sessions run throughout the week from 1st September to 20th October.
There will be no session on 20th September due to our Krimptonite Finals and prices are adjusted accordingly.
Why Choose NICAS at Climbing Hut?
Both programmes are nationally recognised and provide a structured, safe and inclusive way for children to get involved in climbing. They build confidence, resilience and social skills while keeping kids active and motivated. With clear pathways and milestones, children can start young and progress all the way through to advanced levels of bouldering.
Spaces are limited, so if you’re thinking about getting your child started with climbing this term, now is the time to book.
We can’t wait to welcome the next generation of climbers to Climbing Hut Ellesmere Port.
