A Colourful First Climbing Experience for Under 5s

Boulder Play at Climbing Hut Ellesmere Port is a dedicated climbing and play space designed especially for children under 5. It offers a fun, safe, and engaging way for young children to take their very first steps into the world of climbing.

With a bright and colourful wall, soft play features, pool noodles, and a hidden play tunnel to explore, Boulder Play is designed to spark curiosity and encourage movement. Children are free to explore, climb, crawl, and play at their own pace while developing confidence and coordination in a welcoming environment.

Designed for Early Movement and Exploration

Boulder Play focuses on playful movement rather than structured instruction. Young children learn best through exploration, and this space is designed to support that naturally.

Climbing helps develop balance, coordination, strength, and spatial awareness, all in a way that feels like play rather than exercise. The varied shapes, textures, and features encourage children to move in different ways and build confidence as they explore.

There is no pressure to climb high or complete specific routes. Every movement is part of learning and discovering what their bodies can do.

A Safe and Supportive Environment

The Boulder Play area has been created with young children in mind. The space is designed to feel inviting and manageable, helping children feel comfortable while they explore.

Children must always be actively supervised by a responsible adult while using the Boulder Play area. Supervision is an important part of keeping the experience safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Climbing Hut provides guidance to help supervisors understand how to support their child while they climb, including how to encourage safe movement and awareness of others in the space.

Safety Video and Waivers

All climbers and their supervisors are required to have watched the Climbing Hut safety video and have up-to-date signed waivers before using the Boulder Play area. This applies to both adults and children.

The safety video and relevant waivers can be found on the Climbing Hut website and should be completed before climbing. These steps help ensure that everyone understands how to use the space safely and confidently.

If, after watching the safety video and signing the waiver for yourself and your child, you are unsure about any part of the information or feel uncertain about supervising your child while they climb, additional support is available.

Extra Support Through Private Sessions

If you would like more guidance, or if you feel unsure about supervising your child during their first climbing experience, we recommend booking a private climbing session.

During a private session, one of our experienced instructors will take the time to support you and your child, explain how the space works, and help you feel confident supervising your child while they climb.

Private sessions can be a great way to get started and ensure your child’s first experience of climbing is positive and enjoyable.
